This site is a tribute to Graham Bass. He is much loved and will always be remembered.
Graham Bass was a proud resident of Croydon, where he spent much of his life surrounded by the people and places he loved. Known for his dedication to his family and community, Graham was a beloved father and grandfather who cherished time with his children and grandchildren.
Happily married to Jean (died 2015) for over 50 years: proud parents to Rowena, Richard, Edward and Clare; proud grandparents to Fabia, Natalie, Frances, Elizabeth, Sophia, Graham, Amelia, Rebecca, Kathryn, James, Erik and Georgina.
Graham’s early life in Coulsdon during World War II, including the experiences of the Battle of Britain and the Blitz which left a lasting impression. An accomplished student, Graham earned a scholarship to Cambridge, where he studied mathematics and economics. After serving in the Royal Signals in Germany, he continued his education at Muenster University. He enjoyed a long career at Esso Petroleum, where he played a key role in developing commercial computer systems.
Beyond his professional achievements, Graham had a passion for gardening, music, languages, and travel. He found joy in tending to his garden, listening to music, exploring new cultures, and speaking various languages.
Though he dedicated over twenty years to public service in Croydon and served as Mayor, it was his pride in his hometown and his commitment to family that truly defined his legacy. Graham’s warmth, dedication, and community spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him.
